Regardless of whether you call your new phone a cell phone, or not, it has managed to show you something new every day. Apple used one particular capability of this iPhone 4 as a focus for its massive pre-release marketing campaign. That one thing was this  video calling capability. As the ultimate in Smart Phones, its multi-media capability is second to none.

Apple’s iPhone4 takes “multi-media capability” to an entirely new level of finesse. Along with video calling, you have the ability to use your cell phone in print media, such as books and periodicals. The world of music and games is easily accessible just by turning on this smart phone and effortlessly making use of the awesome touch screen menu.

Finally, you have complete access to every aspect of the web. Your phone can easily give you browsing capability, emailing and other capabilities you traditionally have online. In Today’s World, your options are limitless. It would be impossible to list all of the Tools, Apps, available to the iPhone user. However, I will try to touch on a couple of the most Widely Used.

Face book – As far as Social Networking Tools, Facebook was indeed the Pioneer. The one thing that has been consistent with Facebood is that what you see in it’s Current Version, is just a Peek at what is to come in the Future. One of the most Recent Upgrades to this App is Facebook Chat. It is even possible to Locate Exactly where your Friends are located. If you combine this Feature with the new Video Call Feature of the iPhone, your Networking Possibilities are Limitless.

Twitter – Initially, for whatever reason, iPhone Users were not able to obtain an App for Twitter. Whatever issues existed at the time have since been resolved. Now, Twitter Fans have access to a Free App. If you don’t have a Twitter Account, don’t worry, you don’t need one. With iPhone Twitter, you can Look at Trends, Locate Specific Users and Search Geographically.

Facebook and Twitter are only two Social Networking Apps. I hope what I have described in the two short paragraphs above will encourage you to take a look at what is available to you. Perhaps the Important Thing to Remember is that the New Features of the iPhone will Greatly Enhance your Favorite App.

Video Calling – Do you live across the country from your Friends and Family? Sure, it’s always nice to give them a call and hear their voices. If that isn’t enough for you, the iPhone 4 is what you need. Video Calling, or “FaceTime” gives you the ability to see your friends and family while you share each other’s lives.

Multitasking – The new “App Interface” adds a whole new meaning to Multitasking. You now have the ability to begin using an App, leave it running in the foreground, and gather information from other App. With this Technology, the App running in the foreground is not disturbed and you experience no impact on your battery.

Experience HD – Along with the Superior Resolution, you now have HD in both Play and Editing. Your Camera is HD, so the Videos you shoot are the best quality possible. The ability to Edit, through your phone, gives you Unbelievable Flexibility. And finally, your YouTube experience has been taken to a new level of enjoyment.

I have written about a few points that were exciting and impressive to me. Take my word for it, the iPhone 4 has many more Enhancements. If you are considering an Upgrade, be sure to look at several things. Are you eligible for an Upgrade, or will you be dealing with Early Termination Fees? Check the Coverage Map and determine the access where you live. It would also be very beneficial to do some Research on Insurance.

Well, it is Christmas Time. I became a father at age 46, so right now I have a 16 year old daughter. She told me she wanted only one gift for Christmas, and that was an iPhone. A few days later, I was watching TV Land, a Television Station that showed only the older shows. I happened to be viewing “Ironside” with Raymond Burr. The “Chief” picked up the phone to make an important call and everything became crystal clear to me. Yes, things would have been different had the Chief owned an iPhone.

The first thing I noticed was the “Rotary” telephone. Yes, the “Touchtone” upgrade came long before iPhone so this was just a passing thought. In this case, the Chief instructed an associate to make him a list of all auto body shops in the area that worked on a specific make of auto. Had he owned an iPhone, he could have gotten the same result, in seconds, by using an App by “AutoRepair”.

A little later in the program, the Chief decided to take his crew, Ed, Mark and Fran, out for a meal. It was rush hour, and they had a discussion about the best way to avoid traffic. Had the Chief been able to access the “INRIX Traffic” App, there would not have been a problem. He would have known exactly how to avoid traffic problems.

I have watched many episodes of this program. I have seen Sgt. Brown, Ed, chase suspects through unknown terrain. Had he owned an iPhone with some Google Apps., just think of how much easier his job would have been.

Fran, the female member of the crew, was very fashion aware. Many times she spent afternoons trying to find specific new designer releases. With the iPhone’s “TrendTracker“, she could have saved so much of the Chief’s valuable time.

Finally we get to Mark, the Chief’s driver and part-time Law Student. With iPhone Apps like “Black’s Law Dictionary”, he could have passed the bar and spent more time with the Chief. Even though he eventually became a member of the S.F.P.D.,  think about all the extra time he could have spent making the Chief‘s Chile.

Yes, the iPhone would have made a big difference for Ironside. But then, what would “Matt Dillon” have done with “Kevlar”?

So you have decided to purchase an iPhone. Now what? Just go to Apple Retail Outlet and begin the process. However, before you go there are some decisions you should make. Just like regular cell service, you should decide whether you want limited or unlimited data plans? Do you have experience with Apps and downloading other information to your phone?

Your iPhone Data Plan should fit your needs. It can be difficult to change Data Plans later, so make sure you get what you need. I would suggest Unlimited Data if at all possible. You can find unlimited plans for around $30.00, well worth the money. At one time, AT&T had dropped Unlimited Data plans but that is changing. It would also be wise to ask the Store Rep about ease of web access. Unlimited data on your iPhone doesn’t do much good if you have continual problems accessing the internet.

Apps for your iPhone are inexpensive and plentiful. Decide what you want to begin with and have your Rep assist you in downloading them into your iPhone. This way, you will be able to see if it is something you can handle easily.

Make a mental list of the Accessories you would like. Many retailers will include some freebies with upgrade, so be sure to ask. I would suggest starting with a case(s), hard and soft. You should purchase a Stylus, Earphones and a Car Holder for hands-free conversation while on the road. Then of course, a Charger. You will, no doubt, build your collection of Accessories for your iPhone over time, but this is a good start. Again, ask about “Upgrade Specials” for the freebies.

In purchasing an iPhone, one rule is above all others. As in any major purchase, “Use Common Sense”. Do some advanced planning and have an idea of your needs and wants before you go. Make sure you choose the plan that will best fit your needs at an affordable rate. It is very difficult and expensive to have to change after you sign the contract. The iPhone experience can be Fantastic, or a Nightmare. It is all up to you.

After purchasing your iPhone, you need to consider what accessories you need or want. You can find plenty of sites online that will offer you sales on most anything. Many of items are name brand, many generic. However, you should keep in mind that there are some Accessories that you SHOULD purchase from Apple, Verizon, Sprint, etc. I have tried to list a few of the more frequently purchased iPhone Accessories, but they are far too many to mention.

Screen Protector – This product serves two purposes. It protects your iPhone screen from scratches and reduces the glare. In most cases it comes in packs of three, and can be used on some iPods as well. Prices range from $10-$15

Protective Cases – iPhone Cases can be a great investment, and are made from a variety of materials. You can find them in Patent Leather, Leather and Suede. You can find Hard Cases, with Arm Straps, to use if you are a runner. The iPhone cases can be found for under $15

Stylus – The Stylus can be a very valuable tool for Navigating through your iPhone. This is especially true if your fingers are a little on the large size. The small tip enables you to touch the Icon of the App you are trying to use. These are great buys for under $10.

Car Holder Attachment – These iPhone Accessories will attach either to your windshield or your dash. With hands-free capabilities, it will allow conversation while keeping your iPhone safe and in sight. Considering driving safety and legal concerns, they are well worth the money. Again, an inexpensive investment for under $15.

I have touched on only four types of iPhone Accessories. As you can see, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to have the extras. Please keep in mind some items can cost much more, such as Chargers. Again, there are some iPhone Accessories that are best purchased locally to ensure they will work with your particular model of iPhone.

At the writing of this article, there are approximately 200,000 – 300,000 “Apps” available for the iPhone. I would like to touch on a few of the more popular, possibly giving some suggestions to the iPhone newbie.

Document Processing – Many Apps, such as iDoc, offer the iPhone user the ability to create Professional Documents. This is done through the use of Templates and Software similar to Word Processors.

Auto Related – There are iPhone Auto Apps that will give you information on specific Makes and Models of Autos, General News relating to the Auto Industry and Options available for your favorite car. You also have access to Photos, Videos and the ability to locate specific New and Classic Autos.

If you are hesitant to leave you computer, for fear that you will lose touch with your friends, take heed. There is no need to worry. You will be able to access iPhone Apps for Facebook, Apps that can enable you to Tweet and Apps that give you access to many Social and Dating Sites.

Do you enjoy Cooking? There are Apps that will give you instant access to Recipes of your Favorite Chef on your iPhone. Maybe you prefer Cajun Cooking over Italian. Yes, there is an App that will help you create the perfect Cajun Feast. 

Games, games, games. There are so many Game Apps available, it would be impossible to talk about all of them. There are word games such as Wordsearch and Crossword Puzzles. You can play Poker, Solitaire or Chess. There are Apps that will supply the unsure single person “Pick-up Lines”.  If you prefer something a little more sophisticated, no problem. With the improvement in Technology, iPhone Screen Resolution enables the User to experience a whole new level of gaming.

Overall, it can be said there is an iPhone App for any and every interest. Be it Social Networking, Household Interests, Gaming, Finance, the Stock Market, Nature and the Outdoors, Education, Travel or Business. These Apps, and much more, are waiting for your iPhone. Prices do vary, but most of them are very reasonable, some being very inexpensive. Go online and search for iPhone Apps. I am sure you will find what you are looking for.
